We know how cold our Michigan winters can get. Here are some helpful hints to protect your auto and home.![]() Like most of us, vehicles do not like the cold weather. It is always a good idea to make sure you are taking car of your vehicle. Keep them full of fluids such as oil, gas, antifreeze and windshield wiper fluid. While under the hood, make sure your battery is clear of corrosion and the cables are in place. Before driving down the road, please make sure your vehicle is cleared from snow, ice and frost. It is dangerous to drive with out a clear view of the road and other vehicles. Also, make sure your headlights and license plates are cleared off as well. Homes are at risk of the water pipes freezing and/or bursting. Protect the pipes by opening up your cabinet doors under your sinks, insulating them, or even running the faucet at a slow drip will help keep the water circulating. Locate your water main cut off valve just in case. You should have your furnace regularly inspected by a professional. The air filter should also be replaced as needed (monthly/yearly) as dust and other particles can accumulate. If you have a fireplace, clean the flute and chimney.
